Jeff and Julie Anderson

purchased Rivertown Inn in 1999 with a vision of reviving this architectural treasure and reinstating its place as a landmark property in the charming riverside community of Stillwater.

Inspired by their passion for fine antiques, gourmet food and wine, historic preservation, music, gardening and literature, the Andersons have lovingly and meticulously restored the Rivertown Inn to its original grandeur while retaining its Victorian charm and elegance.

Larry Loyer

Larry's resume reads like an adventure novel … Great Lakes' ship deck hand, art gallery curator, opera house box office manager, self-taught historic home restorer, program operations manager of a children's theater … he has tackled it all with enthusiasm and exuberance.  Larry's work behind the scenes includes managing constant and meticulous repairs to the historic inn and grounds, special event programming and art and furniture conservation.

Chef Matt Carlyle, 35, and The Rivertown Inn family could not agree more with Virginia Woolf's axiom.  They believe beautiful foods should be healthy and energizing while nourishing the mind, body and spirit.  In a time when the word Chef is often bestowed with abandon, Matt Carlyle has truly earned this title. He ascended from the bottom up, starting with a high school job in a local sports bar, earning a world class education at a culinary arts school, landing a coveted internship at one of Europe's most famous restaurants, and honing his talents in the kitchens of several of the Twin Cities' most respected and popular restaurants.  Matt now brings his talent and love for fine foods to Rivertown Inn.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Matt became an impressive self-taught artist and master doodler in high school – creating cool album covers, posters and notebooks – and he also landed a job in the kitchen of the popular Green Bay Packer sports bar Tiffany owned by the Montpetit family. When a stint at community college studying graphic design fell through, Tiffany's owner Blake Montpetit encouraged Matt to take his creative esthetic and cooking talents to the next level by enrolling in Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Mendota Heights.   Matt flourished in the challenging program at Le Cordon Bleu where he became a "chef's pet" by getting to class early to ask questions, spending additional time practicing skills, and discussing new ideas with his instructors.  Matt's talent, skill and passion earned him a highly sought after internship at the famed Maxim's in Paris where he spent 6 intensive weeks preparing dishes for a chic international clientele while learning from the finest and most demanding French chefs in the world. Matt loved every moment.   He returned to the States and took a position with the Minneapolis Campus Club, a private club located in Coffman Memorial Union with a sophisticated setting for university events, weddings, and corporate meetings. He was then lured back to Tiffany where he revamped the sports bar menu with greater variety and lighter fare.

Matt broadened his style in the trend-setting kitchens of the Corner Table in Minneapolis and the award-winning Ristorante Luci in St. Paul. Both feature creative, in-season dishes with locally sourced foods from responsible farms and purveyors. He worked most recently at Domacin Restaurant & Wine Bar in Stillwater, MN, heralded in Travel + Leisure magazine as one of America's 25 Best Wine Bars, featuring new American cuisine with a creative twist.

Grounded in classic French cooking principles and imbued with his love of Italian dishes, Matt's culinary philosophy parallels that of Rivertown Inn owners Jeff and Julie Anderson who believe that beautiful foods should be healthy and energizing while nourishing the mind, body and spirit.
